S.F. Bay Area - "Silicon Valley"
Early morning fog cover starting to burn off the valley. The Santa Clara Valley was nicknamed "Silicon Valley" in the early 1970's by Don Hoeffler, an American journalist. It originally referred to the south bay region from Palo Alto down through San Jose. Silicon Valley is now a metonymical descriptor, referring to all high-tech businesses in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to a population over 7 million, it is now the home to many of the world's largest high-tech corporations, including the headquarters of 39 businesses in the Fortune 1000, and thousands of startup companies. Silicon Valley also accounts for one-third of all of the venture capital investment in the United States.
